Displacement Activity

31 January 2016

I have knitted and sewn many stitches this month just not on the one project I really should be focussing on.  The picture of the quilt is the same as earlier this month and not a stitch has been sewn in the meantime.  I am lucky that Cameron is patient.  Quilting is a new project for me and I have reached a stage where I need some time and headspace to sit and work out the next bit.  I don't always get much of either of these, so it is up to me to make sure I do so that I can get started, as I know that once that happens, I will be left wondering why I haven't made a start before!

The socks are slowly growing, I had progressed a fair way down the foot before I realised that I had made a mistake many rows back so I ripped all the stitches out, I am almost back to where I was before.  Frustrating but I least I noticed then and not even further on!

My cardigan is off the needles.  It needs blocking and then the ends, there are many, need weaving in.  I have bought buttons, so I am nearly there.  I am terrible for ignoring projects at this point and casting something else on but I have resisting, so far.............

.........difficult when this pile is looking at me longing.  My latest purchases.   I bought this yarn online, something I rarely do.  I visited my local yarn shops and couldn't find the colours I wanted.  I risked it online, you can never quite tell if the colours are right can you, and I do like to give the yarn a squish too.  I lucked out with this yarn, it is exactly what I wanted.  I am so looking forward to casting these on.  Two new projects!

I made a birthday present for my friend, I will enlighten you in another post and four of these for the children to store stuff in.

So February, you are the month I will get going on that quilt, a cardigan will get finished and hopefully shared, and just maybe something new on my needles.  I am a step down the road of making some clothes for myself, buying a pattern, next I need some time in the fabric shop, alone.  Maybe that might happen too?

Joining Jennifer for the Winter Project Linky Party, head on over and see what others are making and creating this Winter.

  1. So much inspiration here, both sewing and knitting. Loving the lavender socks- so detailed and I adore the color. Please, please show us the cardi when finished. I am looking forward to February- always a pep in my step when I turn the page on the calendar. Best of luck with all your projects:)

  2. Ooh, I love that sock, both the colour (my favourite) and the pattern. There's something about cables that I really REALLY like, the way that they intertwine without ever really having a beginning or an end. I am fascinated by Celtic knotwork and can lose a lot of time tracing the patterns around only to find that they join up perfectly. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your projects finished! xx

    1. I too love cables and when I saw this pattern I just knew I needed to knit it. I am loving knitting these socks the pattern is over so many rows that it just keeps my interest all the time, I can see many more pairs in my drawer as time goes on.

  3. Love the cables on those socks, and the colour.
Know what you mean about buying yarn online, I ordered what a though to be a lovely lush purple for my barn sweater and when it arrived it was rather dull looking! think that's why I'm having such a hard time finishing it - well that and casting on other things too!
    Have a wonderfully creative february.

    1. Oh no, that's rather annoying. I do hope it is not beginners luck for me although I have discovered there is a lovely yarn shop in the village a friend lives in so I might just have to go back...........much better than buying online!

  4. You've got some fabulous projects on the go and some lovely things waiting in the wings too. There's no point getting on with the quilt until you're in the right frame of mind for it, crafting is supposed to be a pleasure and I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you feel the time is right. I like the pattern on the sock, it's a good job you noticed the mistake before you got much further, I do hate taking things back.

  8. I know what you mean about buying yarn online, I've often wondered how you tell whether the colours are right. If it makes you feel better, I knitted a cowl over Christmas. It needs just three ends tying in, no blocking, but still it waits..

  9. Really like the look of all your projects. And your new yarn. Crafting is either all or nothing with me. At the moment, just getting back into the swing!

    1. That fabric was crying out to be bought. I sew but would not call myself a seamstress. I am completely self taught and I am sure there are some things I do that would have others who sew properly rather baffled!

  11. Your hands will be busy...my crafting is slow progress at the moment. I'm knitting a shawl and the rows are soooo long!

    1. That's why I love to have more than one project, to give some space from those that are dare I say tedious at times?

  12. Ah your Cardigan is looking lovely :-) So many nice projects here. Plenty of things to work on this month.

I can relate to your stop-starting of projects, it's something I do too :)

  13. It does take great determination to complete a project before the lure of a new one draws you away, especially if there are a number of wips to finish - it is almost easier to start a fresh one before finishing the others!

  14. In my head I have a list like this of things to finish, and the jumble of projects in my studio bears testament to that, but I also have so many days filled with other stuff ahead of me this month that I know it's not going to happen. Wishing you better luck than me!

    1. That can be frustrating but at least if you know it isn't going to happen it makes it slightly easier.

  15. So many lovely creative projects. I like having several projects on the go. I can do which ever I'm in the mood for. Although I do acknowledge that this is not a great approach if you actually want to finish something. I too have a quilt waiting to quilt and socks on the needles. There is one crochet blanket half finished. One tunic and a coat waiting to be finished. Plus an ongoing patchwork for my daughter. My bet is the socks will be finished first. Happy February creating!

    1. I am not sure that it isn't a good approach to getting something finished. It may take longer but I do think it is better overall as you stay interested in them all.
