Life with Abigail and Barney

27 November 2015

November is nearly over.  There were some special moments but I am ready for December.

We go out for a walk every Wednesday, usually without fail.  We have failed a lot recently, one walk in eight weeks.  I have missed them and Autumn in all its glory.

I have been ill more times in the last few months than I have in the last few years.  Why that should be is a mystery to me but I am feeling good now and really glad to be back to full health.  It's hard being ill especially as a mama.

The weather has been like a sandwich this month.  Mostly dry and unseasonably warm at the beginning, mostly dry and seasonably cold at the end.  The filling in the middle a wet, grey, soggy mess.  Two weeks of continuous heavy rain, every day. The field over the road from us became more lake like, the sheep marooned on grass islands.  We were visited by storms, which now have names it would seem, Abigail dropped by I thought she hung around rather a long time, or so I thought, but then I discovered via a blog that she was followed by Barney,  blowing the rain sideways and disturbing ones sleep.

It has not been a month for talking photos.  The grey light and forgetting my camera making it impossible.  On a rare occasion the light was good, I did remember it and took a photo of the beautiful sky, after clicking I got a message, no card in camera.......oh dear.

I am a home bird, I don't usually venture that far but November has taken us to two different cities.  As a rural girl at heart I find them totally over stimulating.  Driving through mile after mile of housing reminds me how different my life is, and I am glad to come home to the simplicity and the quiet.

I am ready for Advent now, I have been thinking and preparing for the weeks ahead.  I will be back to share each week with you.  But for now I need to get on with some sewing, I have presents to be finished to be taken away on Monday to save on postage.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will be back next week.

  1. You managed to take some lovely pictures I'd say and really Novemberish! Hope that it will dry up for you soon though. Sorry you have been unwell and glad to hear you are feeling better now - in time for all the preparations!

    1. I actually found lots of time for preparing as it was about the only thing I wanted to do when under the weather!

  2. I'm glad you're feeling better. Have a good weekend. It sounds like another one to be safely tucked up indoors.

    1. It was wasn't it. We picked the only two hour window in the weekend when the rain was bucketing down to go for a blustery walk :)

  3. I'm sorry to hear you've been ill, there's been lots of germs going round, it just hasn't been cold enough to kill them all off. You've certainly had some wet weather, those poor sheep look as though they're marooned in the middle of a lake.

    1. They were marooned poor things, they look at us expectantly as we approached! You are right about it not having been cold enough to kill off germs maybe that is why I have been unwell.

  4. It looks as wet there as it has been here! I can see the river from our bedroom windows, it's half a mile away and in a dip so we only see it when it spills over it's banks and floods the surrounding fields.

And yes, I'm a country mouse too, I know exactly what you mean about big towns and cities.

    1. Yep, the rain came down and the floods came up. I do hope it stops soon, I am tiring of it now.

  5. Oh my! It's been awful weather hasn't it. Today is no exception where I am. To put a positive spin on it I don't need to exfoliate following a walk into town earlier. The wind and rain seemed to remove the top layer of my skin. :-) x

  6. I am ready for Advent too, and the preparations have begun here. Sorry about the weather, the illness, and a dreary November, not fun at all. Wishing you a December filled with good things.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

    1. I am looking forward to December for sure. Being stuck at home as meant that I have had plenty of time to prepare and it is the only thing I felt like doing at times.

  7. For a moment I thought you had inherited extra offspring :-). I must admit I do like city living, everything on your doorstep, okenty for the kids to see and do and I love people watching! Paris is my favourite and I have some happy memories from time spent with Dave and the kids x

    1. Ha ha, that would be a little cosy! I am glad you like city living, I know that it suits some people and that is a good thing here in the UK where there is not enough space for every one to live in the countryside.

  8. My goodness, you have had a lot of rain - me, not quite so much, but enough to make it feel pretty miserable. And I know what you mean about not being able to take photos - the light has been so poor over the last week or so. I also know what you mean about visiting cities - I am a country girl through and through and find the fast pace, traffic and people a bit overbearing and can't wait to get home to the peace and space of the countryside. Glad you are feeling better now and looking forward to Advent - Christmas will be here before we know it!

    1. It will Elaine, it will. I am feeling more ready for it this year than in the past. Perhaps my sedentary November wasn't such a bad thing.......

  9. Wow you have been getting a lot of rain. Feel the same way as you about cities.
Sorry to hear that you have been unwell. I'vé had a cold for a week or so but luckily it doesn't seem to be turning into anything worse. Looking forward to seeing your advent celebrations.

    1. Hope that cold has gone now. The rain is still coming, the field was back to a lake over the weekend again and the wind was gusting at 60mph! I am ready for a bit of blue sky now.......

  10. I haven't been feeling very inspired to take pictures either. I do like your reflection photo above - and those poor sheep - so soggy! We just got back from a holiday visit to a city and I am definitely glad to be home - it is not my cup of tea at all.

    1. Do you know I never noticed the reflection until you mentioned it! The sheep round here are used to it we are in a very high rainfall area :)

  11. So many interesting things this month for you. I'm sorry to hear you've been sick lately. I have been too, still getting over a bad cold after almost two weeks with it. I was also sick earlier in the fall. I never used to get sick as much as I do now, it's really a drag. It looks so wet there, I hope it dries out soon so you can take some more good walks. I enjoyed these photos very much. Take care and have a good week.

    1. It is a drag. It makes everything ten times harder which we don't need. Still all better now and raring to go......hope you are too.

  12. I am a homebird too. I usually walk daily but I have been skipping the walk hoping that helps my eyes get better (windy!!). you took beautiful photos for not taking photos. I find I take less as well. I'm okay with that.

  13. November was rather soggy round here too - I went for a walk with a friend on Thursday and it just about finished my trainers off completely; so much mud! I quite enjoyed Abigail and Barney, though only because we were all tucked up inside. Here's to a crisp, seasonal December. xx

    1. Yeah we enjoyed the bits when we were inside but it seemed to go on for so long that we had to go out, that bit was hard work. Horizontal rain anyone?

  14. I hope December is a month of walks and photo taking. (Heart drops when I see the "no card" message). Smiling at your photo of the drainpipe. Enjoy your crafting and here's to better weather.

    1. That's at the bottom of our neighbours garden. We live on the side of a slope the water drains off the fields above us and eventually finds its way into the field on the other side of the road to the house. It is channelled through a pipe between the terraces where I live but the pipe gets full and the water comes down the neighbours garden, the drainpipe stops it flooding the backs of their house and ours :)

  16. I am glad you are starting to feel better now. I am looking forward to advent too. I also find cities over stimulating and although they are good for a visit, I'm always glad to be back home :)

  17. I'M so sorry I am so behind on your lovely space. Looks like your November was miles away from ours. All that water, my goodness! I'm glad you are feeling better. We were sick quite a lot as well. My grand-mother always told me that indecisive weather = indecisive health... I guess kit is true everywhere. :-)
