Mosaic

25 February 2015

Oh February you are a hard month to bear.  Cold to start with, cold at the end but in the middle warmth accompanied by heavy grey skies.

It seems that the poem we read for Candlemas was right....

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright
Winter will take another flight
If Candlemas Day be cloud and rain
Winter is gone and will not come again

...we had a fair and bright day on Candlemas

I had hoped that I would be showing you lots of sign of spring today but there are few in my part of the world and the light this month has not been conducive to taking photos.  So I offer you a lone crocus and a few hardy primroses from my garden, I am always amazed that flowers this delicate looking shows us their beautiful blooms in the snow, and the snowdrops which are everywhere and have lasted for weeks.

Perhaps March will be the month for signs of spring?  I do hope so.

  2. What a lovely mosaic - signs enough - I love the seasons and seem to forget each year just how long, even though it is short, February feels.

  3. You're ahead of me as neither my crocuses or primroses have flowered yet. It's a nice day today but still very cold.

    1. Rather strangely, I have not seen either anywhere else in the area. I have several crocus plants but this is the only one that has come up. The primroses are in a pot so I am guessing this gives them a bit of protection hence the few flowers they are producing!

  8. Such pretty snowdrops, they surely compensate considerably for all the February gloom.

  9. Beautiful pictures despite the lack of 'photographic' light, it will be a while yet before we see any signs of crocus here.
I like that Mosaic way of displaying photo's - wish I knew how to do it!
What celebrations do you have planned for St Davids Day? I'm keeping my eyes peeled for anyone selling daffs as mine are still sleeping beneath a thick blanket of snow.

    1. I haven't thought about St David's Day yet tho I know I need to soon! Our daffoldils are firmly in the ground still and were under snow until last night when it warmed up enough (one degree) for rain rather than snow. :)

The mosaic is really easy if you use PicMonkey a free website. You use your own photos and they have lots of blank mosaics for you to use, it is really easy to put together. You save the completed collage onto your hard drive and then add it to your post in the same way as any other photo. Give it a go!

  10. It's the longer days that make February more bearable I think. We have had daffodils in bloom since Christmastime and there are yellow catkins tossing on the hazels, lots and lots of snowdrops and a few brave primroses in flower but for me it is the light and the sound of birdsong that make spring seem a real possibility here in the West Country. Love your photos.

  11. My garden is a carpet of yellow crocus flowers. Beautiful. But it is bitterly cold and windy just now. Looking forward to March, February is my least favourite month.

  14. Hehe... I've given up on signs of spring for a while. Should be a much nicer week here, but still several degrees under freezing and no chance of a thaw. But spring will come. It always does... Hang in there!
