...is for Jam...

...strawberry, picked by me and the children at a local pick your own.  We have tried to grow them in the garden but they just don't ripen so we grow other plants instead.  We picked six pounds of strawberries and ate most of them!  We made just over two pounds of fruit into three pounds of jam, my daughter helped me, stirring the pan from time to time.  I hope she remembers it, in time, just as I remember doing the same with my mother, and she with hers the wonderful alchemy of jam.  Now I am off to make some scones, they are perfect with strawberry jam and cream don't you think?  In the meantime head over to PODcast to see what others are sharing for  the Alphabet Photography Project.

  1. I hope your daughter will have happy memories of making jam with you in the years to come. As well as of the wonderful taste and of the fun time spent picking the berries too. I am sure when she is as old as me the very smell of strawberries will trigger happy memories like these I find mnore and more often that some tiny thing will transport me back to those wonderful free happy days of childhood!

  3. Oh yes, homemade scones and homemade jam. Perfection. I didn't have enough strawberries for jam this year, but luckily there's some of last year's left. You've reminded me what a lovely thing they are to eat. CJ xx

  5. Gosh that looks delicious with those big lumps of strawberries in it. With scones and cream - yes please.
My boys brought me in a bowl red and black currants from the garden yesterday and insisted on making jam with them. I explained that for reasons of practicality it is better to make jam in bigger quantities. All they wanted was to make one jar for their dad for breakfast - so that's what we did!!!

  6. It's funny, but I've tried to grow strawberries in my garden on a number of occasions but it never works. Why is that, I wonder. Any ideas...? Love your homemade jam - makes me want to tuck right in.

  8. We've made our strawberry jam for the year, although I may just squeeze another batch in. I've given up growing sstrawberries for the same reason and we have so many other places locally. I'm always too impatient and let the plants fruit the first year. Too tasty. #AlphabetPhoto

  16. Nothing beats homemade strawberry jam. We used to make our own too from wild strawberries that grew on the side of the road back in rural Canada. Do you know how many tiny wild strawberries are needed to make one jar of jam - gazillions!! :)
