Shawl

14 February 2014

The project that has taken out all my time over the last couple of weeks is finally finished.  I was blocking it when shared my knitting earlier in the week.  I love this pattern and would love to make more of these, however I am baffled by the gauge and sizes given.  My working gauge and finished gauge were spot on but my finished dimensions are smaller than those given.  I blocked it quite hard, I couldn't stretch it any further without ruining it, so I am not sure where I went wrong.  It is a little on the small size but I hope it will be ok for my mum, it fits me fine but she is a little bigger than me so I do hope it it is not too small.  I sound like am being really negative about it, I love it really!

Pattern: Guernsey Triangle by Jared Flood

  2. Beautiful!

I can't always get my head around gauge either, I guess if you made it again you would know to go a bit bigger, right?

  3. Beautiful, absolutely love it!
I've had a few patterns where I couldn't get the gauge to match the finished dimensions. Sometimes it was an error in the pattern, other times it remains a mystery where I took a wrong turn. Either way if it turns out I am more than happy.

  5. It's a beautiful thing, and I adore the colour.

Re. the size ... some yarns grown more than others on blocking, perhaps the original was knitting in a yarn with more give than the one you chose :)

  6. I love the texture. It looks like such a cozy warm shawl. Perfect to sit in front of the fire and knit with it over the shoulders. Enjoy your weekend!

  8. It's very lovely. Sorry it's not the size you were expecting. I hate when that happens and I have followed the pattern.

  11. It's beautiful. I'm sure it will be just fine for your mum, that's the great thing about shawls, they don't have to 'fit' as perfectly as a garment.

  13. It is beautiful - but man that's frustrating when you do all of the careful planning and hard work and it's not as you pictured it. I hear you! And you know, we knitters appreciate hearing the nitty gritty (or knitty gritty) as it were so that we can plan our next move:) Have a good week!
