Knitting

05 September 2012

I am joining with Ginny and friends for this weeks sharing of knitting and reading and Tami for WIP (work in progress) Wednesday.

On the needles this week are lots of projects but I am sharing the sock that I started some weeks back and I am close to finishing.  A few more rows of the foot before I can start shaping the toe.  My husband has been away this week so I have managed to knit these all the time this week.

I am reading a book about the Crusades at the moment.  I have wanted to read a book about this part of history since reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse.  The history that I studied at school left huge gaps in my knowledge as I all we seemed to look at was the Romans!  I have found as an adult that I love to read books like this or historical novels like Katherine by Anya Seton which is one of my all time favourites.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Knitting is a jumper for the husband. I have never knitted him anything before and now he isn't sure he likes the colour, well tough! Reading is a huge backlog of blog posts from having 2 weeks internet free, and my latest gardening magazine.

  2. Your sock looks wonderful!
I have big gaps in my school history education, too. For me, it seemed we did the second world war, endlessly.

  3. Socks looking good! Interesting that you are reading Labyrinth, I tried reading it last summer but found the chopping and changing of the plot and some of the gory stuff a bit too much to bear!

    1. Thank you. I was not sure about it when I got home, but it has knitted up into a lovely sock.

  5. I love reading about the crusades. There are so many books with differing opinions about a lot of the finer points.

Have you read the Mosse's second book Sepulchre? I have it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

    1. Yes I have, it was good but not as good as Labyrinth. I have a copy of The Winter Ghosts on my to read pile.

  6. Wonderful sock! I've got a toddler cardigan on my needles, hopefully it'll be ready for her 2nd birthday. I don't get much time for reading, it's usually either knitting or reading - but I'm working my way very slowly through Joseph Knight by James Robertson, Which is set in Scotland/Jamaica at the times of slavery and when it was outlawed.

  8. That's quite the sock! Looking at it reminds me why I so infrequently knit socks for my husband!

  10. Isn't it amazing how much more sense history makes now than it did when we were in school? And how much we never even knew about?
